Botox or Dysport lasts approximately 3 to 4 months. It takes two weeks to see your final result after your treatment. At around 2 1/2 months you’ll start to see the effects taper off. Dosing does correlate with duration, so if you use a smaller dose you may not get the 3 to 4 months duration but if you use a larger dose, you may get longer duration however your aesthetic results may not be pleasing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does Botox or Dysport last?
What kind of restrictions are there after a Botox or Dysport treatment?
We ask you to not touch, press or rub the areas that were treated for 4 hours. We also ask you to avoid exercising and keep your head upright for 4 hours. After 4 hours you’re free to do whatever is needed.
Can you get bruising or swelling with a Botox or Dysport treatment?
It is possible to have bruising after a Botox or Dysport treatment. Usually there is little to no bruising. The best way to avoid bruising is to stop any over-the-counter supplements and blood thinners such as ibuprofen, aspirin (unless prescribed by a doctor) or Aleve and always avoid alcohol for approximately 5 to 7 days prior to your treatment if you’re very concerned about bruising. Remember bruising always resolves and it does not affect your results but for some people, it is an inconvenience. Immediately after the injections, you’ll see small little red bumps that will last for ONLY 20 minutes. Botox and Dysport is injected as a bolus and within that 20 minutes it will spread in the muscle and smooth out.
How much Botox or Dysport will I need?
There are many variables that determine how much you will need. Your desired result, your skin type, how severe the wrinkles are, how many areas you would like to treat, and how strong your muscles are. Men usually need a higher dose of wrinkle relaxer than women. Every individual is different. Clinical trials give us a range of doses for each area. Our injectors are usually conservative when considering these doses because you can always add more, but you cannot take Dysport or Botox away. Sometimes it may be necessary to add more at a two week follow up appointment or it may be necessary to do less at your next treatment.
What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Botox and Dysport are actually more similar than they are different. They are both made by reputable aesthetic companies and have been FDA approved for many years. The core ingredient for both is botulinum toxin that temporarily reduces the movement of muscles that cause wrinkles. They have the same side effect profile and usually duration of effectiveness is similar however each individual may experience the products differently.
What can I expect from Fillers?
Most of the dermal fillers on the market today contain lidocaine. If they do not, we can simply add lidocaine to the syringe of filler. This addition of lidocaine has significantly reduced the discomfort associated with dermal filler injections. Some other adverse events that can occur may be erythema, swelling and bruising. As with any injectable, patients should avoid all blood thinners for 10 days prior to the treatment. Call our office to get more information on pre-treatment instruction.
How long do Fillers Last?
Most dermal fillers last on average up to a year. Patients may need a touch up in 4 to 6 months after their initial treatment. At Hamilton Aesthetics, we encourage patients to maintain their filler results by not waiting until your filler has completely metabolized before getting your next treatment.

How much downtime is there with an IPL, Secret RF, and Viva nano-fractional resurface?
With an IPL, your skin will look red immediately after the treatment. This will subside within the next few hours. The dark spots which are the target of the treatment will start to become peppered (darker) in the next 3 to 5 days. This will continue for about 1-2 weeks and then you will notice the dark spots will discreetly flake off. There is no peeling.
With Secret RF and Viva nanofractional resurfacing, these are more aggressive treatments and you will notice your skin will be red for 24 to 48 hours and then it will look a light pink, like a faint sunburn. You will be able to manage this with make up and or tinted sunscreen. There is a potential for mild to moderate swelling with these treatments as well. Antihistamines are great OTC medications to control swelling after these treatments.
Most importantly for any skin resurfacing treatment, avoid direct sun exposure and always wear sunblock daily when you leave the house.
What can I expect during the Secret RF, Viva Nano-fractional resurfacing and TriBella treatments?
All of these treatments are our most aggressive skin resurfacing treatments available. They use combination therapies to yield comprehensive results. For some of the treatments we do offer numbing cream to reduce discomfort associated with the treatment. We will also be continuously communicating with clients to assess discomfort because we are able to adjust the settings to keep clients comfortable.
All of these treatments do stimulate collagen production which means smoother, brighter and firmer skin will result in 3 to 4 months after your treatments. We always strongly recommend after and during these treatments to avoid direct sun exposure and apply sunblock when leaving your house daily to protect your investment.
Does Microneedling hurt?
Microneedling uses very tiny needles to create small channels into the skin’s surface. We are able to control any discomfort associated with Microneedling by using numbing cream. We can also decrease the settings to make the treatment less aggressive to make sure our clients feel comfortable. Your skin will be red for several hours after micro needling with some possible pinpoint bleeding which subsides shortly after the treatment.
Do you Microneedle or inject PRP?
We offer both. We will draw your blood, spin it down and remove the plasma and then administer it either via Microneedling or injections.
With injections, there is a higher risk of bruising and swelling. With Microneedling, we simply apply it to the skin once those micro channels have been created in the skin’s surface by the microneedling treatment.

QWO initiates a process we call Enzymatic Subcision and Remodeling (ESR®) by severing the band that pulls the fat cells down, creating the dimpling effect on the skin. The enzymes in QWO—called collagenases—release the fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells to create a more even skin texture, and stimulate the growth of new collagen.
The bruising looks severe, and painful. How long does it last?
In clinical trials, 84% of subjects treated with QWO experienced injection site bruising. In the clinical trials, the severity of bruising and pain did not seem to be correlated. Bruising tends to decrease with each round of treatment.
Does the patient need to complete all 3 treatments to see results?
Yes, a patient needs to complete all three sessions to see results. While independent assessments may vary, QWO was studied in patients who received three sets of injections spaced 21 days apart. Efficacy was assessed at Day 71, after all 3 treatments.
